Concerns with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite

Concerns with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite

Robert Lewis Knuckles III
“Problems Looming Around”

With Capcom’s anticipated title Marvel vs Capcom Infinite coming out in September many people are happy but there are people that aren’t happy and I happened to be one of those people that don’t have a good feeling about this game and I’ll explain why.
Now I wrote an article early this year saying that we should avoid Marvel vs Capcom Infinite mainly because the history of fighting games that were recently released by Capcom. To make a long story short it basically started with Street Fighter IV releasing a new title every year spending so much money.
Next we have Marvel vs Capcom 3. When this game was released there were many problems and it had a short roster. A couple months later in the same year Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was released adding more characters and patches making people once again pay more money.
Third game we have is Street Fighter X Tekken. The problem with this game was the on  disc DLC that featured 12 players. This created an uproar throughout the internet as people should because if something is on the disc people shouldn’t have to pay for it again.
The last game we have is Street Fighter V. When it was released there wasn’t many modes to play and a low character roster making the $60 not worth it. It wasn’t a complete game.
This is just one of the many concerns with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. The other concern is the character roster. A few months ago there was a leak from a credible source showing the roster of characters in Marvel Infinite. Now majority of roster features many characters from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 such as Spencer, Nova, Arthur and so much more. It’s cool to see Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy and its also cool to see Jedah from Darkstalkers.
A big noticable from the roster is that there are no X-Men Characters. X-Men is one of the biggest names in Marvel and not having them in this game is a huge surprise. Another surprise was the reason. In an interview with Gamespot Peter Rosas and Micheal Evans two guys that are working on Marvel Infinite said the reason why X-Men characters aren’t in the game because people won’t remember them. I’m sorry but that's just wrong. People don’t know who Wolverine is? When the Movie Logan came out earlier this year and it did extremely well. People won’t know who Magneto is? One of the biggest names in Marvel not only that but Magento is one of the top villains in Comic Book History. No disrespect but you mean to tell me that people know Rocket Raccoon, Black Panther and Captain Marvel more than the X-Men?
Having a Marvel game without X-Men characters is having a Nintendo game without Mario, Link, Samus, Kirby and Pikachu. It’s also like having an SNK game without Terry Bogard and it's like having a Capcom game without Megaman oh wait that already with Marvel vs Capcom 3.
Another issue with this comment is that are people going to know who Jedah is? No disrespect to the Darkstalkers character but when's the last time we’ve seen a complete new Darkstalkers game? Jedah hasn’t been in a whole lot of games
Now I get it people are not going to know every single character but you are still fascinated in that character. When I saw Marvel vs Capcom in arcades I was a young kid. The game caught my attention but I’ll be honest. I knew all the characters from the Marvel side but I didn’t know everyone from the Capcom side. I only knew the Street fighter characters and Megaman. I didn’t know Strider, Morrigan, Jin and Captain Commando but that still didn’t stop me from playing as them.
This comment that Capcom has made is like a shot to X-Men fans out there and it's sad to see that especially when the versus series started with X-Men Children of the Atom. Without the success of that game Marvel vs Capcom probably wouldn’t happen.
We definitely know that DLC will be featured with Marvel Infinite but what doesn’t make sense is that Sigma is DLC when he’s part of the main story. I don’t want to see important X-Men characters as DLC. With such a small roster who knows how many DLC characters are going to be added. That’s going to be a lot of money that players will have to pay. What makes it worse is that there is no Fight Money. Players will have to pay money for DLC characters. Now if the DLC characters are free that would be great but I doubt they will.
Now let’s get into what the Pro Players of Fighting game community are saying about his game. Pro players such as Yipes, Justin Wong, Filipino Champ and more have said nothing but great things about the game. That’s good and all but people outside the fighting game community don’t feel great about the comments because the Pro Players are the ones that play Capcom games a lot but it's not only that. Pro Players have done this before with other Capcom games. They said good things about Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken and Street Fighter V. There were people outside the fighting game community that felt differently about those three games. It’s better to interview people outside the community because there are more people and honestly less known people can sometimes give a better review than someone inside the community. No matter what pro players say they are always going to be seen as a bias person because they play these games
Story mode makes me a bit nervous. After E3 Capcom released a free demo of Story Mode and it's not that good. Almost everyone wasn’t happy with it. This will make a lot of people nervous. Now it's not to say that the story will be bad but after our first glimpse of it we didn’t get a good impression.
Now reading this article people might assume I’m a Capcom hater but I don’t want gamers getting screwed when buying this game. Capcom was one of my favorite companies. I remember playing Street Fighter II in the arcades and owning it on the Super Nintendo always getting my butt kicked by Ryu. Now when I saw Marvel vs Capcom my mind was blown. Seeing Marvel against Capcom characters I never thought would happen but when I saw Marvel vs Capcom 2 my heart was taken. Three on three battles with a huge roster and great music was just incredible. Marvel vs Capcom 2 is still my favorite fighting game today. Back then Capcom really put their hearts into their fighting games. Now Capcom seem to make incomplete games. Last fighting game that Capcom made that didn’t have any controversy was Tatsunoko vs Capcom. A great game that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Now I get it companies want to make money but there’s a right way and bad way of doing things and right now Capcom hasn’t been doing it the right way. There’s just so many things going on with Marvel Infinite that just tells me that it’s not the game for me. I use to be a huge Marvel vs. Capcom fan but now I can’t support it. With the past fighting games having issues, the roster, X-Men comments, Story, DLC and even Pro Players comments I just can’t buy this game. I can’t tell you gamers what to do. If you want to buy it I can’t stop you but if you do be careful. I personally believe that gamers should take a stand against this game but time will only tell. Thank you for the time you took to read this article.
