Tekken History: Tekken 2

Tekken History: Tekken 2

Back with another Tekken History and it's one of the Tekken games that I played the least which is Tekken 2. Now it’s not to say I didn’t like it I just never played it much and most people that I knew that had a Playstation didn’t have this game but most people would have the demo version.
Tekken 2 is the follow up of Namco’s first Tekken game. Tekken 2 had a couple of different versions released on the arcades. Most common was Version B that was released April 26 1996 and released on Playstation consoles on August 27 1996.
The gameplay in Tekken 2 adds a couple new features. It’s still the same 3D fighter from the first game. Tekken 2 added attack reversals for some characters, back throws, chain-throws and tackles were made for greater damage when running from a far distance.

Tekken 2 add some new characters, nature lover Jun Kazama, police detective Lei Wulong who has an interesting fighting style. Heihachi Mishima returns as a starting character and not a secret character. Kazuya Mishima returns and serves as the game’s boss and his devil form serves as the final boss.

The story of Tekken 2 takes place two years after the first Tekken tournament. Kazuya is now head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and it has grown more corrupt with illegal operations and kidnappings of endangered animals for experiments. Heihachi who’s presume to be dead by Kazuya whom threw Heihachi off a cliff is still alive and wants revenge. Knowing that Heihachi is still alive Kazuya announces the second tournament to finish his enemies. In Heihachi's ending he throws Kazuya in the mouth of a volcano claiming back the Mishima Zaibatsu and leads to the events of the next Tekken game.
Now although I didn’t play this game that much I still thought this was a good game. It was definitely better than the first one. I thought Tekken 2 featured iconic characters such as Jun because she gave birth to another iconic character. (Who I’ll be talking about in the next article.) Lei became a fan favorite with his fighting style. Devil was an annoying final boss with his stupid lasers and Angel who is Devil’s palette swap is served as Devil’s final boss but Angel is the goodness of what's left inside of Kazuya.

One of the biggest things that Tekken 2 featured was the depth. It added a lot more characters in this game and added a lot more modes such as Survival Mode, Team Battle and Time Attack.
