Tekken History: Tekken 3

Tekken History: Tekken 3

Robert Lewis Knuckles III
“A Must Have”
I couldn’t wait to write about this game. Tekken 3 was a must have if you had a Playstation. This was also the game that got a lot of people into the Tekken series. Almost every house I went to that had a Playstation had Tekken 3.
Tekken 3 was released in arcades March 1997 and on consoles April 29 1998.
The gameplay changed tremendously. Movement is a lot faster, everyone can side step, jumping was toned down so that no one can jump extremely high making air combos and better juggles. One feature that helped me extremely was the recovery from knockdowns were a lot faster.

Tekken 3 added the famous game mode Tekken force, a side scrolling beat em up mini game that has players choosing any character to fight enemies and a boss character at the end of the level. The best thing had to be when the announcer said “Chicken.”

Many iconic characters were introduced in this game. New character Jin Kazama serves as the main character. Jin is the son of Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima (who doesn’t make an appearance due to Heihachi throwing him in a mouth of a volcano) and grandson of Heihachi Mishima. Ling Xiaoyu is another character new character. She is a joyful teenager and classmate of Jin. Hwoarang is a Taekwondo student of Tekken 2 Baek Doo San and rival of Jin. New character Eddy Gordo was loved and hated. People loved that his Capoeira style was easy to use but others hated that he was newb friendly. I loved every new character that was introduced but my favorite had to be Julia Chang, Michelle Chang adopted daughter.

The story of Tekken 3 takes place 19 years after Tekken 2. Heihachi has seized control of the Mishima Zaibatsu back from his son Kazuya. Heihachi sends his group the Tekken Force out in Mexico on a mission but on their mission they come across a being known as Ogre the game's final boss. Seeing Orge gave Heihachi ideas to use for power.
Jun was living in the quiet mountains with her son Jin. Jun has a strong feeling that something terrible is about to happen and she was right as Ogre attacked their home. Now it's been said that Ogre killed Jun but it was never shown. This made Jin angry and was confronted by the Devil and thus having the devil gene.

Heihachi takes in Jin and years later announces the next Iron Fist tournament only to use this opportunity to lure Orge and capture him. Jin does manage to defeat Ogre and but Jin was betrayed by Heihachi and shoots him but the devil gene saves Jin and smashes Heihachi through a wall and flies out into the night.

Tekken 3 is just a fantastic game. Even if you’re not a fighting game fan Tekken 3 was still enjoyed by others. Another small game mode introduced was Tekken Ball. A game mode where players have to strike at the volleyball to hit their opponent on the other side. This game made me want to get a Playstation so bad. Tekken 3 was also the last Tekken game to be on the PS1 before the PS2 came into play. Tekken 3 is still loved today by many people. Tekken 3 was one of the best games ever made and deserves to be in a video game museum.
